Friday night’s High School Basketball had its share of upsets and near upsets for Rowan County teams. At West Rowan, the Falcon boys were stunned by North Iredell 43-42. The Raiders, who had entered the night one of three teams tied for last in the North Piedmont Conference, got connections on both ends of a one and one free throw opportuniy from Junior Austin St. John with 8.7 seconds remaining to go ahead, and then a missed baseline 12 footer by West’s Keshaun Sherrill enabled them to hold on. The loss dropped West Rowan to 7-3 in the NPC, but they still maintain second place. West plays at Carson Monday and West Iredell Wednesday to wrap up the regular season. In the Girls game, it was no contest, as North Iredell easily won 64-33. The West-Carson Boys game Monday will be broadcast over Newsradio 1490 and 1490wstp.com, beginning at approximately 7:45PM for the Boys game.
